Here at The Loft, we think everyone needs to know how to sew and to feel right at home doing it, so we offer sewing classes and workshops right in the center of Lisbon. We are also the first co-sewing space of the capital.
In our bright, inviting sewing place with lounge area, you can hang out with other sewists to learn, unleash your inner designer and share your creativity. With fresh coffee and tea to help the process along! Even if you’ve never sewn before, we can teach you!
The Loft is equipped with sewing machines, overlock machines, huge cutting table and working tables. You can find 100 books and magazines for inspiration. You can use free of charge Scandinavian, Japanese or original vintage patterns. Everything you need for your creative project.
The sewing classes and workshops are small to ensure your sewing success. The Open Atelier hours are for your free spirit projects.
Check the opening hours and prices on the Schedules and Prices page for The Loft Co-sewing Space.
At The LOFT, you can also ask for sewing alterations to your size, adjustments and repairs to your clothes or decorative items: skirts, pants, dresses, shirts, cushions, curtains, etc. Among the services available, you can change the hems, put buttons on, and more.
Leave an email if you have any questions or special wishes.
Keep the needles sharp, Sisters!
My name is Ariane Arand, I'm 52 years old, I live in Lisbon and I love to sew.
Like many people I have a grandmother and great-grandmother who brought the DNA of the needles and fabrics to the family.
Original fashion victim, the maternal grandmother learned to sew just to be in the latest fashion with only few resources and then worked as a seamstress in a blouse factory and made the cloth of my mother's dolls during the difficult times of World War II.
This DNA I re-found much later in class with a dressmaker.
I studied patternmaking, sewing and cutting at Modatex fashion school in Lisbon. I took extracurricular courses such as corsets, fashion accessories and quilting. I then obtained the CCP (Certificado de Competências Pedagógicas) and am a certified textile trainer.
Now I spend most of my time sewing, whether teaching, creating or talking about this subject that both interests and delights me and for sure you as well.
